24/10/2016: Munich-Neuschwanstein

We arrived Munich HBF around 7.10am. I booked a family room at Meininger Munich city Center. It is around 15 minutes walking distance from Munich HBF. It is two tram station ( HolzapfelstraBe station) distance from Munich HBF. The hotel is considered as low cost accommodation but it provided free Wifi, guest kitchen ( at 1st floor) and luggage storage lockers ( at underground floor).

We stored our luggage in the locker. The locker has two sizes, small one (for 24") and big one for 28" luggage. The price for locker is around 4 to 6 euro for 12 hours. We bought our breakfast at the Munich HBF.

We started our journey to Neuschwanstein castle at Fussen.

Transportation Munich- Neuschwanstein castle
I used Regio-Ticket Allgau-Schwaben for 4 persons. The ticket is 35 euro for 4 persons. The ticket only can use at 9am during weekday but it can start use from 12 am during weekend and public holiday. The ticket is including the bus fare for RVA bus. The train from Munich to Fussen is a direct train but it may be not a direct train for returning. The ticket machine at the Fussen train platform can print the information about the transit. It also a machine for purchase ticket. It is very convenient.

When reached Fussen train station,  we took bus to Neuschwanstein castle. The bus stop for Neuschwanstein castle is Hohenschwangau Neuschwanstein castles and the bus took around 10 minutes to reach the stop. It can either take RVA/OVG 73 in direction to Steingaden/Garmisch-Partenkirchen or take VA/OVG 78 in direction to Schwangu. The bus normally will stop just in front train station when the train is arrived.

My train was departed from Munich at 9.53am. The journey took around two hours.

Transportation to Neuschwanstein Castle
The bus stopped at the park. It has two castles in the park, Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein castles. From the ticket centre, it will take about 30 to 40 minutes to walk to the Neuschwanstein castle. It also can take shuttle bus or horse-drawn carriage to the castle. The castle is about 300 metres or 5 to 10 minutes walking distance from the carriage turning area. The price is 6 euros for uphill and 3 euros for downhill. I choice shuttle bus because it is the cheapest option to reach the castle. The departure point for shuttle bus is below Hohenschwangau castle. It is just only 2.6 euros for a return trip. Moreover, it also can the easiest way to go to the Marienbrucke. It is a looking point for Neuschwanstein castle.

Neuschwanstein Castle
Neuschwanstein castle is a symbolic medieval knight's castle. The construction cost of Neuschwanstein in the king's (King Lugwig II) lifetime amounted to 6.2 million marks, almost twice the initial cost estimate of 3.2 million marks. However, King Lugwig II ever saw his new castle as a building site. The castle was opened to public after seven weeks of the death of King Ludwig II in 1886.

Hohenschwangau castle
it is a 19th century palace. It was the childhood residence of King Ludwig II of Bavaria and the castle was built by his father, King maximillian II of Bavarian.

Ticket can directly purchase at the counter or reserve online. Ticket for both castle on the same day is 24 euros. I not purchased tickets to enter the castles. Although I not visit these castles, I had spent more than four hours at the park.
