11/7/2017: Mountain, farm and hot spring (Kota Kinabalu)

The journey started with a nice breakfast from Seng Hing restaurant. The restaurant is famous with Tauran Mee. Our breakfast was RM42.40 including two Tauran mee and two Tom Yam Prawn noodles with four drinks. The location of the restaurant can obtain from WAZE.

In the early morning (around 7.30am), few tables were occupied with local people.

Tauran Mee, is a popular noodles in Sabah.
It usually fried and serve with pork, egg and vegetable.

Tom Yam Mee, with big prawns
The prawns were fresh and the soup was nice and not too spicy.

After breakfast, we start our journey to Kinabalu Park. We were lucky because the view of the peak of Mount Kinabalu was very clear along the journey. We saw local people/ natives sold durian beside the road. I found out durian either can get along the road to Kinabalu Park or in the city.
Nabalu town, about 15 minutes before Kinabalu park is a one of the best place to see Mt. Kinabalu and its adjacent landscape. At the edge of the town, there is a platform to see Mt Kinablu, and it's an idea place for photographers to capture the view because nothing obstruct the view and the mountain looks very close. Besides, many handicraft can be found at the Nabalu's market. The price is much cheaper compared to city and the price can be bargained.

Kundasang, a town in the district of Ranau, Sabah, famous with its vegetable market and dairy farm. The vegetable wholesalers can be found beside the main road. KFC also located beside the main road. This is the only fast-food restaurant can be found in this area.
We stopped at the Desa Cattle Dairy Farm. The farm is located at the foothill of Mt. Kinabalu. The scenery is very amazing and it is a wedding photography destination. The entrance fee is RM5.00 for adult. According to Sabah tourism website, the farm is producing about 900,000 litres of milk per year and it is 199 hectars. Most of the milking cows are Friesians and they are the highest milk producers. In the farm, you can feed the cows and try the popular dairy products like fresh milk and ice cream.

One of the Kundasang's roundabout.
I found two roundabouts in Kundansang, one sculpture is vegetable and other is cow.
Both are the representative of Kundasang

We continued our journey to Sabah tea garden (STG). According to the Sabah Tourism website, Sabah tea is the only organic tea farm in Bornea and one of the few in the world. The entrance is free. According to the brochure of STG, STG offered few one day activities like ( the price is not mentioned in the brochure):

  1. Visit the tea factory: the best time to visit is between 8am and 12 noon. The tour must have at least 2 person and the length of the tour is 45 minutes.
  2. Quailey's hill hiking
  3. Tea factory visit with lunch
  4. STG one day including tea factory visit and Sapaon river
  5. Tea factory visit and Sg Morolli
  6. Eco education tour

The roundabout is very special.
The sculpture is representative the specialty of the area
For instance,  the sculpture of Kundasang's roundabout is cow

After lunch at Sabah tea garden, we went to poring hot spring. It is about 1 hour driving journey from Sabah tea garden. It is recommended to bring swimwear, towel and change of clothes. The entrance fee for Poring hotsping is RM 3 (adult). It has other interesting areas in Poring hotspring like Poring Canopy Walkway and Rafflesia flower site. The entrance ticket is not including for these areas.

Walkway to the hotspring

pools and  bathtub
The private bathtub is around RM15 per hour.

When we back to city, we went to University Sabah Malaysia (USM). UMS is the ninth Malaysian public university located in Kota Kinabalu. The university has private beach and jetty.  The place called Outdoor Develpment Centre (ODEC), is a place for outdoor activity such as picnic, beach sport or retreat program.  It is a nice place to view sunset. Besides, UMS has a small Aquarium & Marine Museum but the museum closed during Sundays and public holiday. The museum is established in 1995, is aimed to promote education, research and training in conservation and sustainable development of marine resources and deployment of biotechnology. I think kids will like the museum.

We had dinner at Twisky seafood restaurant (双天海鲜楼). The restaurant has good variety of seafood but a little bit pricey. I think I prefer Welcome seafood restaurant instead of this restaurant.

Dinner was RM187.20, served with prawns, squids, vegetable and clams
